What would you tell people about "A Frantic Woman's Guide to Feeding Family and Friends"?
It's a cookbook jam-packed with tips. You can use the two-week cooking system or select favorite recipes from the book to incorporate into your family meals. There is something for everyone, including recipes kids can cook.
Is this a cook book? Or how would you describe it?
It's actually two books in one. It's a cookbook, yet there are oodles of time and money-saving tips, plus practical ways to have family fun all rolled into one.
Why did you see a need for it, given all the cooking and advice books that are out there? What makes yours different?
Yes, there's a ton of cookbooks out there. However, mine's different because a women's life is never the same every week and every month. First, there are the four different season, then the holidays, and of course, special occasions such as birthdays. This book offers menu suggestions for all of that. There's a week's worth of turkey and ham recipes for all that leftover turkey and ham. There are menus for meals at a vacation house, overnight guests who stay for a week, birthday parties for young and old. Plus, there's an entire section of recipes for dishes to bring to pot luck dinners, banquets, parties and more. Each recipe offers background about the recipe and suggestions for jazzing it up if you want more pizzazz or dressing down for blander taste buds.
What will they find in it? Did you tell me that you have menu plans, recipes and shopping lists in the book?
Yes, you'll find menu plans for the four seasons because we cook entirely different in the summer than we do in the winter. There are more than 340 entress with 505 variations to the entrees, plus side dishes, appetizers, desserts, snacks and even recipes for beverages. Best of all, there are shopping lists for each of the menu plans to make life that much easier for the busy family. The short cut suggestions will save time at the grocery store and time in the kitchen. And there's practical advice for storing ingredients, a rundown on herbs and even stain removal.
Did you say there is one for PMS week?
Yes, every woman deals with PMS at one time. So, I thought it would be a great chapter to add. The PMS (Stressed Out or Bad Day at the Office) Week suggests super simple meals using ingredients that help supply a woman's body with the nutrients and vitamins it needs during this time of the month. The menus are quick, effortless and tasty.
Are all the recipes yours?
Actually, in addition to mine, there are 90 contributors from around the United States who shared family-friendly recipes with me and my readers.
Could you also talk about why men might want to read this book and what they could get out of it?
There are several men who contributed recipes, including one single dad raising three kids. My book includes no-cook meals, 15 minute meals, 30 minute meals and slow cook tonight meals. If you have minimal time to spend in the kitchen and need to feed the family, male or female, this book is for you. There are numerous time-saving tips and kitchen shortcuts that men would find beneficial, especially if they're a kitchen newbie. At one time or another, most men will need to cook up something for dinner so this book can help them do it. The other thing is the book offers ideas for creating family fun so if dad is out of ideas, there's a sure-fire tip for him to settle in with a fun-filled family night.
What will people learn in it?
They really can feed their family a home-style meal without spending a lot of time in the kitchen or money at the grocery store. And with our economy the way it is today, saving money is a good thing.
