Five Inexpensive Gift Ideas

The holidays are zipping toward us faster than we can sing The Twelve Days of Christmas.  Even as the number of presents you need to buy mounts, the amount of cash you have to spend decreases.  Don’t groan!  Let your imagination soar.  There are many possibilities you can create with as little as five dollars.  Check your dollar stores and Internet freebie sites for a bundle of good stuff cheap.

Here are five ideas to jump-start your creativity.

  1. Business box.  Several sites offer business cards, pre-inked address stampers, self-stick labels, phone cards and mouse pads for free with a small shipping charge.  Most of the time, the items will arrive in a week to 10 days.  Order one personalized item.  Then, buy a few other office supplies, such as paper clips, pens, correction fluid and so on.  Place these items into a Clementine box or larger recipe file box.  This gift is wonderful for someone just starting his own business.
  2. Tea Time.  Look for flavored tea on sale.  Many times you can find it buy one get one free.  Then, purchase several pretty cups.  Tuck a variety of tea bags into the cups.  Add chocolate or wrapped biscotti to each one.  Give to female co-workers, neighbors or friends.
  3. Snack stocking.  Buy a stocking or gift bag and fill with individual bags of microwave popcorn, candy, nutrition bars, mini pretzels, chewing gum, peanuts and more.  Any college student will be thrilled to receive one.
  4. Craft container.  Use a plastic container to hold various art supplies.  Glue, fancy scissors, play dough, stencils, markers, colored pencils and any other item you can pick up inexpensively can be included.  With a permanent marker, personalize the container.  A great gift for the budding artists on your list.
  5. Beauty bag.  A fabric make-up bag can hold various miniature and trial size health and beauty aids.  Shampoo, conditioner, hair gel, Chapstick, hand lotion, disposable razor, vitamins, toothbrush and more.  A thoughtful gift for a new mom or a frantic woman.
